Whole30 Approved Chili- A Family Favorite

This recipe is always a hit with my family! We even make this when having friends and family over and everyone likes it- even people who aren’t paleo or Whole30. It can be cooked on the stovetop or in a crockpot. Either way it’s tasty. As with any soup, it’s better after simmering for a couple of hours {stovetop} or even the next day. I’ve tried a handful of Whole30 approved chili recipes and this is a mixture of a few of our favorites!

I hope you guys enjoy this recipe! If you make it and post a photo to Instagram tag me! Tag me in your actual photo and use the hashtag #EmilyEatsRealFoodRecipe. I love seeing the creations you come up with from my recipes.

Whole30 Approved Chili
  • 1 lb Ground Beef
  • 2 Cloves of Garlic, Minced
  • ½ of a Medium Yellow Onion, Chopped
  • ½ of a Red Bell Pepper, Chopped
  • 1 Can of Tomato Sauce
  • 1 Can of Diced Tomatoes
  • 1 Cup of Beef Broth
  • 1 Large Sweet Potato, Cubed in ½in Pieces
  • 1-2 Bay Leaves
  • ½ Teaspoon of Mexican Oregano
  • ¼ Teaspoon of Thyme
  • 2 T Chili Powder
  • Dash of Cumin
  • 1 Teaspoon of Salt
  • ½ Teaspoon of Pepper
  1. Brown ground beef in a soup pot with onions, peppers and garlic.
  2. Once meat is no longer pink add all other ingredients and bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer on low until sweet potatoes are soft.
  4. At this point I prefer to let my chili simmer on low for a couple of hours- this allows the flavors to marry and give a better chili taste.
  6. Follow step one above.
  7. Combine all ingredients in a large crockpot and cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours.

this chili is fantastic. better the next day. i used a full onion and red bell pepper – i didn’t want my chili to be super dense and heavy and oz for tomato sauce and diced tomatoes was not listed so i used 8 oz tomato sauce and 14 oz diced tomatoes along with chicken broth and it is delicious!
